LifeMOD and Korea Defense Agency: Characteristics of a Standing Shooting Posture

Client:
The Korean Agency for Defense Development (ADD)
Business:
Planning defense acquisition for the Republic of Korea
Challenge:
The Korean Agency for Defense Development (ADD) is responsible for the planning and conduct of all defense acquisition for the Republic of Korea, including R&D, testing and evaluation, and support for foreign military purchases. They wanted to answer questions such as: how do you determine an optimal shooting posture? How can you objectively quantify the complicated relationship between mass and impulse force of the weapon and the mechanics of the shooter?
Solution:
With the assistance of Chungnam National University, the interaction between a shooter and weapon was studied using a LifeMOD™ virtual model of the shooter and a mechanical model of the weapon, helping determine the influence of human posture on firing accuracy. An impact analysis of a simulated rifle model and the human body was performed, providing data on the displacement of the rifle and the transfer path of impact on the human model.
Value:
The study provided insight on the optimal parameters for the most effective shooting posture.
